Henry Cavill states he still has Bond in his sights.
Whilst there have been many reports of Tom Hardy taking up the mantle of 007 when Daniel Craig departs after No Time To Die, a certain (Super) man seems to believe that it may not be the case. Speaking to GQ, Henry Cavill has once again thrown his hat into the ring to take on the role of the Britain’s most famous Secret Agent. Cavill once auditioned for the role when he was just 22 and made it down to the final two choices before being pipped to the post by Craig. Asked this week about taking over as James Bond, he said, “At this stage, it’s all up in the air.”
This would seem to contradict the reports that Hardy has landed the role. Cavill said, “We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting. If Barbara (Broccoli, the main Bond producer) and Mike (Bond co-producer Michael G. Wilson) were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity.”
Quite how Cavill would be able to get audiences to accept him as both Superman and James Bond at the same time remains to be seen and it is possible that the actor is using his interest in signing up to another major film franchise as a bargaining tool, with rumours circulating recently that the actor is in the process of negotiating the signing of a new deal with Warner Brothers that, if completed, will see him appearing as The Man of Steel in three more movies with cameos in other DC Comics movies.
Cavill can currently be seen portraying yet another iconic character, Sherlock Holmes, in Netflix’s Enola Holmes.
