In spite of the proposed Disney purchase of Fox, Hugh Jackman says he’s unlikely to play Wolverine again.
With the proposed Disney buy-out of 20th Century Fox, many Marvel fans can barely contain their excitement of the prospect of an X-Men/Avengers crossover that for years has only seemed like a pipe dream. Whilst we may yet see Wolverine take on the Hulk someday, it appears that it may not be Hugh Jackman donning the claws.
The actor who played the character for the last seventeen years recently spoke with Collider and it appears that he has firmly maintained his stance that his appearance in Logan was his his final stanza;
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Recently rumours had begun to swirl that the proposed deal may tempt Jackman back but it appears that won’t be the case, even if he didn’t seem to have much on the horizon to talk about regarding upcoming roles.
“Never before have I felt the landscape so bare — maybe I should be worried about that. But… I just finished, wrapped a film with Jason Reitman called The Front Runner, which is a political comedy and I do feel right now very open and excited to have no idea what is coming next.”
High Jackman stars in The Greatest Showman which hits US cinemas December 20th and is released in the UK December 26th.
