Mark Hamill wants to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.
Whilst Mark Hamill eventually retracted most of his initial disdain over the direction his iconic character, Luke Skywalker took in Star Wars: The last Jedi, it’s fairly obvious to most that a certain amount of diplomatic license may have been used by the actor after the film’s release. Many fans were far more vocal in their disappointment in how Luke Skywalker was treated in Rian Johnson’s film.
It now appears that the actor is more than open to switching to a different cinematic universe, namely Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy and director James Gunn also appears to share the same enthusiasm. When recently asked by a fan via his Twitter account if he’d consider writing a part for Hamill, the director replied stating that he’d be more than happy to meet up and speak with Hamill about it. Whereas Hamill seemed even more committed to the idea when he replied;
“DM me for my contact info if you’re serious.
(& a good neighbor)
xoxo, mh”
Whilst this all could be nothing more than good natured banter between the them, it may confirm that Hamill will not be returning to the Star Wars franchise in any significant capacity at least. Many fans have speculated that we may see Luke’s Force Ghost in the third chapter of the new trilogy and there was also speculation that after the passing of Carrie Fisher, that the writers may even try to work some explanation for Luke not actually having died at the end of The Last Jedi.
James Gunn has already proven with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, that he’s willing to cast established actors with the Tango & Cash reunion of Kurt Russell in the role of the villainous Ego and Sylvester Stallone’s brief appearance as Stakard Ogord.
Whilst the project is still in the early stages of production with director James Gunn still working on the script, there is a very reasonable possibility that this could happen.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 currently has a release date of summer 2020.
