Guillermo del Toro set to direct Fantastic Voyage remake.
The remake of the 1966 sci-fi cult classic Fantastic Voyage has reportedly found its director in none other than Guillermo del Toro. The man behind Hellboy, Pacific Rim and Pan’s Labyrinth, to name but a few, is reportedly set to take on the job of helming the new version. Previously it had been reported that James Cameron had been interested but with his directorial commitment to the Avatar sequels he stepped aside. Omega Underground reports that 20th Century Fox hope to start filming of the project in Toronto, Canada in January of next year.
The Hollywood Reporter stated in January 2017 that the studio was in talks with the director about the project and if this report is correct, it seems that they have finally settled on a deal. The same report also stated that Cameron will stay involved and co-produce the project with Jon Landau. Filming is said to be taking place at Pinewood’s Toronto studio where Del Toro has filmed his last three projects. No announcement has been made regarding a release date or any casting decisions but if this is happening we would expect an announcement by the studio to come soon.
