Mark Ruffalo let’s slip of a planned Hulk trilogy of sorts.
It’s easy to forget but during the 1990’s Marvel wasn’t the massive powerhouse of success that it is now and to avoid bankruptcy, the comic house was forced to sell off many of its major characters’ rights to other studios.
A plethora of rumour-mill articles which seem to suggest that Marvel are close to getting their characters back from Fox appear virtually every week but we wouldn’t hold our breath about titles such as The Fantastic Four or the X-Men stepping into the MCU any time soon.
Other film studios have been more willing to play ball to get in on the action, such as Sony with their loaning of Spider-Man and Universal with The Hulk. Of course these deals come with certain caveats and that’s why we’ve yet to see the big Green Guy in a solely Marvel Studios made solo outing, much to the dismay of the actor who portrays the Hulk’s alter ego Bruce Banner, Mark Ruffalo. But speaking to Cinema Blend recently, the actor revealed that he has found some comfort thanks to Marvel kingpin Kevin Feige. Whilst speaking about the Hulk’s part in the upcoming Thor: Ragnorok the actor had this to say;
“So basically, Kevin [Feige] pulled me aside before this, and said, ‘If you were gonna do a… if we were going to do a standalone Hulk movie, what would it be?’ And I said, ‘I think it should be this, this, this, and this and this, and ends up like this.’ And he’s like, ‘I love that. Why don’t we do that in the next three movies, starting with Thor 3 and then we go into Avengers 3 and 4.’ And I was like, ‘That sounds great!’ And so we are at the beginning of this arc.”
So it seems we are due to get a Hulk trilogy of sorts, interspersed throughout the next three major Marvel movies with Ruffalo getting to tell the character’s story anyway. The actor also had this to say on the character’s development which will be showcased in the third Thor movie;
“Hulk speaking is the start to separating of these two individuals, these identities in this split-identity person, and where that’s going to end up going. So it was really interesting to me. He’s like a baby! He’s like a five year old or six year old. So he has the same syntax, he has the same world view, and so it was fun. It’s like Chris [Hemsworth] – we all got to reinvent our characters in this.”
Thor: Ragnarok opens in the UK October 24th and the US November 3rd.
