Production of Die Hard: Year One still going ahead, Len Wiseman to direct.
Stuck in development hell since 2015, it would appear that Die Hard: Year One is actually going to happen after all with Len Wiseman, director of 2007’s Die Hard 4.0, recently announcing that the film is set to go into production shortly.
The sixth film in the long-running action franchise is said to be set in the 1970’s with a different actor taking on the role of young rookie cop John McClaine. Bruce Willis will also appear in perhaps his most famous role once again as the story is said to be bookended by McClaine in the present with Willis recently commenting on the casting of the younger McClaine;
“The right casting for this role is crucial. Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill.”
Willis has toyed with the idea of walking away (probably with shoes on) from the role for some time and even stated so in 2010 before filming had even began on the fifth instalment of the franchise;
“In the next few years they could easily find a replacement for me or call the character someone else. But for me, I want to do Die Hard 5, then one final Die Hard movie — Die Hard 6 — before finally hanging that white vest up for good.”
This could be seen as an attempt to reboot the character of the wise cracking, New York cop with a series of films set in the 70’s. But think of this for a moment, a character played by Bruce Willis and a younger actor playing a younger version of the same character… sounds a lot like Looper to us? Why not give Joesph Gordon-Levitt a call Mr Wiseman?
