Stephen King is said to be impressed by It remake.
Whilst Hollywood seems hellbent on churning out endless remakes, many fail to hit the mark when it comes to the approval of fans and critics alike, however the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” may just be the movie to buck that trend with a positive endorsement from King himself.
The horror directed by Andy Mushietti will open in cinemas next Friday and as well as positive early reviews, the iconic author has revealed that he has seen the movie not once, but twice and is full of praise for it in a new interview on Bloody Disgusting stating,
“I had hopes, but I was not prepared for how good it really was. It’s something that’s different, and at the same time, it’s something that audiences are gonna relate to. They’re gonna like the characters. To me, it’s all about character. If you like the characters… if you care… the scares generally work. I’m sure my fans will enjoy the movie. I think they’re gonna really enjoy the movie.
And I think some of them will go back two or three times and actually savour the thing.
I went back and saw it a second time, and I felt I was seeing things the second time through that I missed the first time.”
King is normally hard to please when it comes to adaptations of his novels having famously poured scorn upon Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of his novel The Shining so this latest interview does come as a surprising endorsement that the new version of his story starring Bill Skarsgård’s take on the evil clown Pennywise, will be well received by movie goers. The author was full of praise for the actor stating,
“Skarsgard was great as Pennywise, and he’s got big shoes to fill. Let’s face it. Because people remember Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown, and they remember the look that Pennywise had.”
“It” is released in the UK on Friday September 8th and a day earlier in the US.
