The Crow remake is to be resurrected by Sony Pictures.
The remake of Alex Proyas’ cult classic The Crow has been gestating for many years now but news that Sony Pictures have now taken on the project may finally bring the film nearer to production. Variety reports that the reboot of the 1994 film which starred the late Brandon Lee will be closer to the original graphic novel written by James O’Barr.
The original film has developed a cult following over the years and will always sadly be remembered for the fact that Lee was tragically killed on set during its filming when an accident occurred during a firearms stunt sequence.
The reboot has been in development for over a decade and was previously linked to Relativity Media, with various actors and directors being linked throughout the years. Jason Momoa was the last actor linked to the role with Colin Hardy most recently linked as director and it is said that whilst neither are still formally attached, that the studio are still interested in both. The film appeared to be destined to be left on the shelf when Relativity Media went under but it would appear that the project has now found a new home.
The original story featured Lee in the role of rock musician Eric Draven, who was murdered only to be resurrected to hunt down his killers and it also spawned a sequel in 1996 with Vincent Perez replacing Lee as the lead in The Crow: City Of Angels.
Momoa is currently linked to the DCEU films with his role as Aqua-Man in both the forthcoming Justice League and a solo Aqua-Man movie, whilst Hardy is directing The Conjuring spin off movie, The Nun.
